Darren Rowse on why readers unsubcribe from a blog

A while ago, Darren Rowse published an interesting survey about why readers unsubcribe from a blog.
  • Too many posts (the post levels are too overwhelming) - 37
  • Infrequent Posting (or the blog is effectively dead) - 29
  • Blog Changes Focus (too much off topic posting) - 23
It is almost like if you blog for yourself, people won't like your blog; if you blog for the others, you won't enjoy blogging. We should have as many blogs as we have topics of discussions to have a descent compatibility between the pros and the cons.

That's interesting - I sometimes visit blogs where each post has 30-40 comments from readers, with the blogger replying to all of the comments - must turn into a chore at some point?

I tend to blog for myself, try not to be too controversial and am always grateful for the few comments that I get!

Found your blog on britblog.

I don't know really. You get the readers started on a subject. In a way, you want to hear their answers.

But when I wrote 'blogging for other, you won't enjoy...' I meant blogging to have more traffics, studying what people wants to read and answer that demand.

People who blog for themselves who find a readership is very very rare and it's very much a luxury.

Having feedbacks is always something nice, it's the proof that somebody cares about what we write -- or at least we are not talking to a wall.
